Match Reports 2011/12
Result Lakelands 2 - 3 Knocklyon
Date 30th October 2011
Venue Leopardstown Park
This was the eagerly awaited top of the table clash in the U9 Division B league. A number of the Lakelands players delayed their mid-term trips away to play in this game. In the away fixture, played in September, Knocklyon won a hard fought match with a last minute goal. Knocklyon kicked off and immediately settled in making some nice passing moves and putting Lakelands under pressure. Luke and Mark were busy in defence as was Darren in goal. Alexander, Michael, Joe and Jack worked hard in the midfield but Knocklyon got their first goal after 10 minutes. They quickly got second and 5 minutes before half time got a third. By now Lakelands had settled in and were rewarded with a goal from Danny, playing in the centre forward position, just before the break – 1-3 at half time. The second half started with Andrew in goal, Patrick in midfield alongside Darragh and Danny with Mark up front. Andrew was called upon early and made two brilliant saves. This drove on the Lakelands lads and when Luke stuck a bouncing ball from 6 yards outside the box into the top left hand corner of the Knocklyon net it was game on! Luke’s goal must be a contender for goal of the season!! Patrick, Jack, Mark, Darragh and Joe had chances but the Knocklyon keeper did very well to deny Lakelands. With 10 minutes to go Andrew, in goal, was injured and Alexander, captain for the day took over the goalkeeping duties. He needed to make a couple of saves to keep Lakelands in the game. In the end Lakelands couldn’t get the equaliser and Knocklyon will win this league and get promoted after Christmas. Once again this was a fantastic game to watch and all the 11 Lakelands players worked hard and did really well. Another learning experience! – well done to both teams.
Result Lakelands 3 - 0 Shankhill

This was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning and it felt more like August than mid-October. The game kicked off at 1pm and Lakelands went on the attack straight from the start. Luke (captain for the day) dominated the early midfield exchanges and was well supported by Joe and Danny. Patrick and Darragh played up front and had a number of opportunities early in the game but the Shankill defence and keeper did very well and the Lakelands lads couldn’t break them down. At the back Mark, in goal, didn’t have too much to do in the half as he was well protected by Alexander and Michael. Later in the half Jack and Andrew came on and finally just before half time Lakelands finally got the breakthrough with a well taken goal by Danny. In the second half it was all Lakelands with Jack dominating midfield with the help of Danny and Joe. Patrick came back on in the second half and went into defence with instructions to move forward when there was space. In one of his runs forward he was fouled not far outside the opposition box. Patrick got up and hit a great shot just over the bar. Joe worked very hard on the left wing and both Michael and Mark had chances. Patrick finally scored Lakelands second with 5 minutes to go. At this stage Lakelands relaxed a little and Shankill almost got in but were prevented by a last gasp sliding tackle by Darragh. The subsequent clearance went to Michael who made a short run and cooly slotted the ball home leaving the keeper with no chance. Alexander, in goal for Lakelands in the second half had little to do but managed to keep his concentration to easily deal with the one Shankill in the second half. This was a much improved performance by Lakelands but all credit to a much stronger Shankill team who defended valiantly throughout and played their part in this very entertaining game. Well done lads! A great team performance!
Result Lakelands 1 - 0 Rangers
Date 9th October 2011
Venue Leopardstown Park
Our match kicked off at 12 on this blustery Sunday morning. It quickly became apparent that this was a much improved Rangers team from the team we met in Bushy Park on the first day of the season. Patrick, in goal had to make a couple of saves early on but Lakelands couldn’t get into their rhythm. This was mainly down to the Rangers players giving us no time on the ball. Every time a Lakelands player got the ball they were quickly surrounded by a couple of Rangers players. Lakelands were finding it very difficult to play their normal dribbling attacking game and struggled to string together passes. Alexander and Michael had a couple of opportunities in the first half but both shot narrowly wide. Just before half time Joe (captain for the day) got on the end of a great cross from the left by Alexander. He made no mistake – 1-0 at half time! With Michael in goal in the second half Lakelands attacked through Patrick, Alexander, Darragh and Mark. Andrew and Danny did well in defence and Michael had little to do in goal in the second half. This game could have gone either way. This was a much improved Rangers side who didn’t allow Lakelands to play their normal passing game. It was not one of the teams better performances but great teams get results even when they don’t play well. All credit to both teams for a close and tense match!
Result Lakelands 7 - 1 Shelbourne

Following last weekend’s narrow defeat to the league leaders the lads wanted to get back to winning ways. This was clear from the early exchanges with Lakelands pressing forward – however Lakelands had a number of shots go narrowly wide and the Shels keeper did very well making some good saves. After 10 minutes the Lakelands midfield were caught out and left a 3 attackers against 1 Lakelands defender (Mark). Mark slowed them down and Andrew got back but some neat play by the 3 attackers left Darren in goal with no chance. 1-0 Shels. Lakelands went back on the attack again and Andrew running from defence finally got the deserved equaliser. 1-1 at half time. The second half was all Lakelands – Luke in goal had to make one save. Michael (captain for the day) and Jack dominated midfield and together with Mark and Darren in the second half created the goal scoring opportunities for the team. A goal each was scored by Danny, Alexander and Darragh but it was Joe who dominated the forward line and he got his first hat-trick of the season. Two of Joe’s goals came from corners from Alexander and Andrew. This was another fine performance by the team. Well done lads!

This was the eagerly awaited top of the table clash between these two teams and the game didn’t disappoint. Lakelands were first to settle and went on the attack from the beginning of the game. In the early exchanges Jack and Patrick were dominating the middle of the park and some fine passing play by the forwards Michael and Darren almost resulted in a goal from Jack but the keeper made a fine save. Knocklyon then began to get into the game and the defence of Andrew, Alexander and Darragh came under pressure. Alexander, captain for the day, led by example from start to finish and put in his best performace of the season. Joe, in gaol in the first half, made a number of crucial saves to keep the score at 0-0. But near the half time break one of the Knocklyon players broke down the right hand side, went past a couple of Lakelands defenders and squared the ball to the centre forward who made no mistake – 1-0 halftime. In the second half Lakelands came back flighting, Mark had a couple of shots well blocked by the defence and the keeper. Lakelands eventually got on the score sheet when Danny picked up the ball near the edge of the box, beat one defender and slotted home a lovely left footer into the bottom left hand corner. Lakelands went on the attack again and pushed forward. Darragh, in goal in the second half was well protected by Luke and Andrew and didn’t have much to do. Lakelands had a number of near misses but Knocklyon held on and with two minutes to go scored from a breakaway. The Lakelands lads threw everything at the opposition in the last few minutes but Knocklyon held on till the final whistle. This was an excellent game of football and both teams played very well. Either team could have won the game but it wasn’t our day. Well done to all!
The Good: the lads never gave up and put in a great team performance! Needs improvement: Passing and talking to each other on the pitch
Result Lakelands FC 9 - 1 Dundrum
Date 18th September 2011
Venue Leopardstown Park
Lakelands under 9B squad put in a good day last Sunday winning 9-1 against Dundrum. Everyone in the squad did their bit from some great saves and clearances from Mark McCabe in goal in the first half to tireless work up front by Daragh O Keeffe who held the ball up well every time. Danny Kennedy opened the scoring with a fine solo effort and Lakelands benefited from an unfortunate og from Dundrum. Alexander Bolger worked tireless on the left wing and put in some great crosses and added to a fine first half performance with a great left footed shot in the top corner. Jack Power and Darren Crowley tackled everything that moved in the middle of the park and both got on the score sheet. Goal of the day came from Patrick Corbett with a fine individual effort along the right wing cutting inside and hammering the ball past the helpless Dundrum goalie. 5-1 up at half time.
Jack Power took over goal keeping duties and was ever vigilant keeping a clean sheet. Mark McCabe got on the end of two defence splitting passes from Luke Ward to score easily and almost had a hat trick in the second half shooting narrowly wide. Andrew Mallen defended with ease all Dundrum attacks and almost scored with a long range effort. Micheal English dribbled well in the middle and set himself up to finish neatly to the corner of the net. Alex and Patrick added to score sheet to finish an impressive 9-1 winners which was a great turn around from the 5-2 defeat from last year.
2 good and 2 bad !!!
2 good - great attitude and great goals
2 bad - not enough passing and not enough passing !!!!!!!!!
Result Shankhill FC 2 - 7 Lakelands

This was our second game of the season against our old rivals from Shankill. Kick-off was delayed 15 minutes as the official referee’s previous game had gone into extra time. The Lakelands boys went on the attack from the beginning and although they dominated much of the first half they only led by a goal at half-time. In the second half Darren took over from Andrew in goal and the Lakelands lads continued to dominate. With 5 minutes to go Lakelands were out of sight having scored 7. But to their credit Shankill never gave up and in the last 5 minutes they were the stronger of the two teams being rewarded with a goal. The Lakelands goal scorers were Darren (1),Alexander (2), Danny (2) , Mark (1) and Luke(1). This was a great team performance with some tremendous play by Michael, Joe, Patrick and Andrew who helped create some of the goal scoring opportunities. It is great to see the new players fitting in to the team. We still have a lot to learn and a long way to go but there is no doubt that the future is bright for this bunch of players.

First game of the season for the lads, some were a little apprehensive but they settled down well once the game started .The first goal began in mid field with Patrick taking the ball from one of the rangers players passing it through to Jack who got by two rangers players then passing back to Alexander who put it in the right hand side top corner 1 - nil to lakelands . The next goal started from andrew at the back who came up the right wing and crossed it to jack who flicked it on to Darren who then popped it up for Alexander who took the ball on the volley straight into the back of the net , goal keeper didn't have a chance.
After a kickout from Rangers which Micheal stopped and crossed to Luke who took the ball down using amazing skill then took a shot from about 15 meters out which landed in the top right hand corner 3-nil to lakelands . For the rest of the half the lads came close on many occasions with shots from Mark , Darragh and Micheal only just being stopped by the keeper who had a very busy half.
Second half began with Danny (who had a very quiet first half in goal) taking the ball from mid field getting past three rangers players up the right hand side took his shot from 10 meters out to put lakelands 4 - nil up . The next goals came from a real team effort with fantastic passing between Joe ,Darragh , Andrew and Jack ending with two scorchers from Danny .
Final score 6 - Nil
