Match Reports 2011/12
Lakelands claim the U9-E1 title!!.
A tale of two seasons for the Under 9E-1
Lakelands in the 2011-2012 season. In
the games before Christmas the lads struggled to find their rhythm and despite
some brave performances and great attitude in training the right results were
all but elusive. A rare win, a few draws
and some close results sent the team heading into the Christmas break with
little to cheer football wise.
Training was another matter, with
enthusiasm and energy going into every drill and practice game.
The rewards for the hard work were to pay
off.
The early signs were good in the annual Park
Celtic New Years Blitz with the U9E-1’s pushing their compatriots from the U9B
team close in a hard fought encounter with only a goal in it at the end. Taking confidence from this the team embarked
on the post Christmas games and what a run of games it was.
Ballyoulster were first up, with a home
game in Leopardstown Park to kick-off. A
great performance from the whole squad brought about a 3-0 win and the lads
were on their way. Away to Tolka Rovers
for a tough away fixture and the Lakelands lads came away on the better side of
a 7 goal thriller. 2 on the trot and the
boys were flying. Next up was Raheny Utd
at home and a 4-1 win. Leicester Celtic
at home next and a slight stumble from the boys in black and green with an
unlucky 2-1 loss. Another road trip to
Raheny Utd was the next outing and a 3-1 win brought the confidence back. Tolka Rovers up next at home and, with the
help of Tom Kennedy and Roddy Breen stepping in for Stephen and Bob, a 2-0 win
was added to the results. The lads were
now top of the league and 1 more win would clinch the title. A tough away fixture to Leicester Celtic, the
only team to record a win against Lakelands since Christmas, was next on the
cards. The boys seemed to sense
something special was on and put in a superb performance to win 7-3 against
strong opposition. With the league won
there was still Ballyoulster to play away.
The home team put in a great performance to overturn their previous loss
against Lakelands with the score 3-1 to the Kildare team.

Result Mountview Boys 3 - 2 Lakelands FC
Date 11th September 2011
Venue Mountview Park
A thrilling game took place today in Mountview Park with Lakelands just missing out on a great result. The game started at a hectic pace with Joe in goal, Cian, Ryan and David in defense, Daniel and William providing the midfield work and Robert upfront. Liam and Brion were the subs and were ready and willing to come on at any time. Lakelands took the game by the scruff of the neck from the off and with a strong defensive display from all 4 at the back it gave Daniel and William platform to launch attack after attack with Robert causing the Mountview defense all sorts of problems. Early on Lakelands could have had 2 or 3 goals but for some unlucky bounces and a number of great saves from the opposition goalkeeper. On the odd rare attack from Mountview, Cian and Ryan were making great tackles with David nipping in to clear up the loose ends and make some tackles aswell to break-up Mountview attacks before they became a threat.
Joe was strong in goal on the few occasions he was called into action and his kick-outs were instrumental in setting up more Lakelands attacks. It was from a great kick-out from Joe that led to the breakthrough. Daniel collected the ball and advanced forward. His shot was blocked down but Robert pounced and drilled the ball home from close range. Brion and Liam came on and settled into the game quickly and Lakelands were unlucky not to have a few more goals with one amazing save from Mountviews keeper after a thunderous goal bound shot from Daniel. Lakelands workrate was outstanding but Mountview stole a goal in the first half against the run of play with the defense unable to clear the ball and despite a great effort from Joe to block the shot it sneaked in.
The second half was a more balanced affair with chances from both sides. Lakelands started to tire a bit from their exertions in the first half but it didn’t stop Liam from covering almost the whole length of the pitch to put in a brilliant tackle. Mountview went on to score 2 more but again it was unfair on the workrate being put in by the lads in green and black. Joe, Ryan and David were still working hard in defense, with Cian making a number of brave and great saves. Brion, Daniel, Liam, William and Robert all interchanged to cause Mountview problems and got their reward with Brion latching on to a loose ball to lash home the second for Lakelands. David pushed forward as the game neared an end and almost got a deserved equalizer but the ball spun just wide.
A cracking game of football that Lakelands were unlucky not to get something from but all the lads can be proud of the work put in and some great flowing football.
Result Lakelands 6 - 1 Lucan Utd.
Date 4th September 2011
Venue Leopardstown Park
The 2011-2012 season kicked off today with the U9E team starting on the new pitch in Leopardstown Park. Cian started in goal, with Donal and Ryan in defense, Ciaran, Brion and Dara in midfield with Liam leading the line up front. Daniel, David and William were the three willing subs but where to come on to great effect later. Lakelands started strongly with early chances for Ciaran and Brion but their shots just went wide. Liam and Dara also had chances early on but some good goalkeeping from Lucan kept the score at nil-all. Daniel and David then came on and Lakelands took their attacking play up a gear. With Donal and Ryan proving well capable of stopping everything that Lucan threw at them the midfield began to really threaten the Lucan goal with Liam making great runs and shaved the post with one chance.
Daniel picked up the ball in midfield and went on a charging run past 2 Lucan defenders before blasting the ball past the Lucan keeper. 1 nil Lakelands and the lads in green and black kept piling on the pressure. Donal cleared and Dara moved the ball on quickly and again Daniel pounced. 2 goals in quick succession but he wasn’t finished yet. Some good work from David and Liam caused the Lucan defense trouble and a gap opened for Daniel again to strike home for his hat-trick. Not to be out-done David, Liam and William all had chances to get on the score-sheet with David making the Lucan keeper make a triple save in order to keep the ball out. On a rare attack from Lucan in the first half Ryan, Donal and Cian all proved solid and once again moved the ball quickly forward and this time it was William who benefitted from good link up play from Brion and Liam and buried the ball confidently in the far corner. Daniel wasn’t finished yet and went on to score a fourth when he picked up the ball in midfield and drove at the Lucan defence before blasting the ball home. 5 – Nil and not even half time.
The second half kicked off with Ciaran taking over from Cian in goal. Lucan went on the attack early in the second half and despite some good tackling they managed to beat Ciaran in goal. Lucan were piling on the pressure and won a few corners in quick succession but Donal and Ryan with help from Brion, William and Dara. With the substitutes being used more and more to keep tired legs fresh Donal moved from his defensive duties to attack. He latched onto a loose ball from Lucan, drove forward and struck a good shot from just outside the box. The Lucan keeper failed to deal with it and it became 6-1 to Lakelands.
The game petered out then and the final whistle came soon after. A great performance from the whole squad in the first game of the season.
