Lakelands
1 1 Cabinteely
Date
: 18th March 2012
Venue
: Leopardstown Park
Our
home tie with Cabinteely this St Patrick’s weekend was much
anticipated since our away win at Kilbogget Park last week.
Despite a reduced squad due to the holiday weekend, Lakelands were
able to field a team with one substitute. Our starting line-up
consisted of Cormac in goals, supported by 3 defenders, Stephen,
Patrick and Michael. Donal and Peter took up the midfield
positions with Finn playing up front. Conditions were terrific and
the game started at a pace we are now becoming familiar with. The
early play was dominated by Cabinteely who were strong in midfield
and a few long range shots came in. Cormac made some excellent
saves in the first 10 minutes with Patrick, Stephen and Michael
working hard to get ball through to our midfield. Lakelands
settled into the game at this point and we started to play some
nice wide ball with good passing movements on both sides of the
pitch. Khyber came on for Michael who took a well -earned rest and
we began to rotate our single sub to ensure we could keep the pace
going for the whole match against a much bigger squad. We were
now getting excellent passes through the midfield for Finn and
Peter to chase and we managed to get at least three shots on
target! With 5 minutes to go to halftime, an excellent long ball
found its way up field to Peter who made a short run and banged
the ball into their net. The home supporters were delighted and we
managed to hold on to our one goal advantage until the halftime
whistle.
Halftime
was a welcome break for both sides. Lakelands kept the same 3.2.1
formation for the second half with only one change. Khyber went
into goals and Cormac came out to support the midfielders. Stephen
was busy early on in the second with lots of pressure coming his
way from corner kicks however we managed to keep the lead until
the 12th
minute when Cabinteely took one of the few chances they had in the
second half and banged it home for the equalizer. More player
rotation saw Donal playing deep and Finn, Patrick and Michael
working their socks off to ensure no further damage was done.
Cabinteely did increase the pressure towards the end of the game
but we held on for a much deserved draw.
This
was an excellent gutsy performance by our much reduced 8 man squad
and we hope to see Sean, Matthew, Alec and Bruce return for the
next game.
Well
played.

A
fabulous morning greeted both teams to Kilbogget park last Sunday.
Lakelands, still riding on a high from the previous week’s match
at Hermitage park turned up early and we immediately turned our
attention to the task in hand, starting with a comprehensive
warm-up. Our starting line- up saw Cormac in goals supported by 3
defenders, Alec, Khyber and Sean. We played Donal and Peter in
midfield and Finn took up the forward position. We started this
game with an emphasis on keeping possession and accurate passing
and this was to prove to be most effective in the final analysis!
The game was very pacey from the start with both sides getting
their fair share of ball however Lakelands chased everything and
appeared to have the upper hand 10 minutes in. Substitutions at
this point saw Matthew, Stephen and Patrick coming on to give
Alec, Donal and Finn a rest. We played more of the same and we
looked comfortable when suddenly, perhaps due to a lapse in
concentration Cabinteely increased the pressure from midfield and
drilled one into the back of our net! This was certainly against
the run of play and Lakelands made sure they conceded nothing else
until halftime.
Halftime
arrived and we decided to change the team formation from 3-2-1 to
2-2-2 as we went in search for goals. Patrick donned the Yellow
jersey for the second half and Alec came back on, freeing Matthew
to go full forward with Bruce. Peter and Donal took up the
midfield and almost immediately Lakelands were in the hunt with
some fantastic passing movements through midfield. We kept the
pressure on and 5 minutes in, Matthew picked up a pass from Peter
and banged the equalizer home. More player rotation saw Cormac
come back to replace Matthew in midfield and we continued as
before. We did’nt have to wait long though before some excellent
link up play put Peter into a scoring position and bang! Straight
into their net to take the lead. Now we were playing for the win
and the Lakelands supporters were delighted with the turnaround.
The game continued to be challenging for both teams and despite
some stoic defending with 11 minutes to go Cabinteely scored,
leveling the game. All to play for then, for both sides for the
final 10 minutes. Our team were determined to fight to the end for
a win and 4 minutes from time Donal opened the ball from midfield
with Cormac in support and the ball ended up on the end of Peter’s
boot—bang! A second for Peter and a deserved winner for our
fantastic team.
Our
team continues to improve` week on week’ and we have shown that
we are a match for any side in our league.
Brilliant
game and result guys, keep up the good work.
Result - Lakelands FC 3 - 5 Esker Celtic

March 2012
Venue – Hermitige Park
It was a cold but sunny morning at Esker
Celtic as Fionan and Marcella warmed up the squad. Lakelands found the first
half challenging and bravely resisted a series of attacks which gave Esker
Celtic a 4 -0 advantage at half time.
Then at half time something strange
happened at Hermitage park which will go down in the history books of Lakelands
FC, some say it was the water they drank, some say it was the team talk from
the coach others say it was a team who decided it was their turn to put some
numbers on the scorecard, but whatever it was Lakelands were suddenly a team
possesed.
With Patrick feeding up some phenomenal
long balls Lakelands were all over Esker Celtic who were left reeling from the
shock. The first goal came from Peter in the early stages of the second half
the Lakelands supporters went mad, the Lattes went in the air.. But that wasn't
all, suddenly Lakelands were everywhere, calling for the ball, lookiing for
teammates and passing.
At this point Lakelands were unstoppable,
Donal turned on the speed and supported by Stephen and Michael put the ball
into the back of the net for the second Lakelands goal, the supporters were
estatic.
Esker Celtic were really feeling the
pressure, Lakelands were unstoppable, Finn was having the game of his life
winning the ball off Esker a number of times.
Then as a wall of green advanced on the
Esker goal Matthew skillfully put away goal number three for his teammates, at
this point the supporters had to restrain themselves from invading the pitch,
there was now only one goal in the difference.
Esker tried to fight back but each time
Sean sent them packing, Cormac's eagle eye ensured that the ball was in safe
hands, Khyber was tireless in his pivotal role as team captain and had to
retire due to injury. Esker got lucky with a goal towards the end but nobody
cared, Lakelands were now a team to be reckoned with.

Another
bright Sunday morning saw us heading for Collinstown to play the
mighty Leixlip Utd on what appeared to be a` larger than usual’
pitch. Agreement with Leixlip to play 8 aside was welcomed as
tired legs were sure to come early on this pitch!
We
began with Khyber in goals supported by Alec, Sean and Matthew .
Our Midfield consisted of Cormac and Peter with Donal and Finn up
front. The first 10 minutes or so was an evenly matched affair and
substitutions came in the shape of Bruce, Stephen and new man
Michael Breen. The home leg advantage definitely played a part in
this match and suddenly out of nowhere the two Leixlip mid’s
started taking long range shots. The first one almost broke the
crossbar! They continued to pound shots at us from long range and
we finished the first half 2-nil down. The halftime break was
welcome and the advice to tiring players was –pass-pass—pass.
Khyber swopped jersey’s with Cormac for the second half and took
up a defensive position playing between the midfield and defence.
Alas, before we had time to settle we found ourselves defending an
onslaught from some strong forwards and Leixlip banged in another
one!
Further
player rotations of our 11 man squad kept us out of too much
trouble and we did get two decent forward moves going halfway
through the second half. Not long after the midpoint in the second
half Donal suffered an injury and had to come off. Tired legs were
really giving way now and despite some excellent goalkeeping and
stout defending Leixlip managed to drill a fourth goal into the
back of our nets.
We
gave a solid performance against what, hopefully, will be the
`strongest opposition’ we meet for the rest of the season.
Keep
working at it guy’s and keep enjoying
it.

Beautiful weather greeted both teams last Sunday for our delayed second match
of 2012. Having played and beaten this team, away from home, last year, our
expectations of a good result were high.
We started with Khyber in goals behind a three man defence which included Alec,
Sean and Cormac . Our starting striker this week was Patrick and he was supported
in midfield by Donal and Peter. The first half was pacey and both teams worked
hard to get the upper hand. Knocklyon had at least 4 shots on target which kept
us busy in defence however some excellent clearances and two or three excellent
passing movements resulted in some chances for us also. Substitutions just before
halftime saw Finn and Matthew coming on for Alec and Donal.
We began the second half with Khyber swopping the goalie’s jersey with Cormac
and it wasn’t long before Cormac got a taste of what was to come. Knocklyon
increased the pressure early on in the second half and after some great passing
movements they got a strong shot away which required an excellent save to keep
us on an equal footing. We dug in and started rotating our players who were tiring
halfway through the second half. Although we made some chances and really stuck
to the task in hand, this match ended in a draw.
This was a fair result for these evenly matched sides.
It was obvious from Sunday’s performance that our team is improving and some
great games and results are ahead of us.
Keep up the good work guys.

Report
We
kicked off the new year last Sunday against formidable opposition.
Esker proved to be tough opposition and with a delayed start in
terrible weather conditions, the challenge was mighty!
Our
starting line-up saw Khyber Rabbi in goals supported by Alec
McCann, Sean Woods, and Matthew Mongon in defence. We ran out two
midfielders, Peter Hennigan and Stephen Pender with Donal Moriarty
playing up front. The first half was tight and despite the energy
sapping conditions, everyone worked hard and we created a few
chances. Substitutions in the first half were welcome respite for
some tired legs with Finn Cleary and Patrick Woods running out the
last 10 minutes of the first half. Esker had the upper hand
towards the end of the first half and managed to convert two shots
despite a terrific overall performance by Khyber.
This
was indeed, a game of two halves. The second half saw both teams
fielding 8 players each. Stephen Pender donned the `once’ yellow
shirt for the second half and Khyber played in the midfield.
Esker, playing with more confidence now managed to score another
two goals before Lakelands finally got a break and converted a
chance. Patrick, Peter and Khyber dug in hard in the midfield and
the ball finally fell to Donal who banged a long range shot into
the back of the net. After a fantastic celebration Lakelands
continued to work for possession and 8 minutes from the end, Donal
managed to get on the end of another long range shot which went
high into the goal. These two, well earned, goals for Lakelands
lifted spirits both on and off the pitch and all the boys worked
hard until the final whistle.
This
was an excellent team performance and a great start to the new
year.
Well
played everyone.

The team started well and played well for the first 15 minutes. Bruce played
very well in goals with Stephen, Matthew and Patrick all defending well after
the coaching session with Colly. Peter and Donal battled in mid field and
pushed forward as often as they could. Finn, Kyber and Sean all played their
part and were busy. Cormac, Finn and Peter were noted too for their efforts.
Park Celtic took their breaks well and the half time result
was 3-0.
The second half saw Park taking more chances with Lakelands
not getting the breaks that they normally make. All players battled admirably
against opposition that are a shade sharper but the Lakelands team will be
playing at this level soon enough.
Captain – Bruce.

A depleted squad with a shortage of keepers made team
selection more interesting. Sean played a great match in goals for the first
half. With one substitute, there was plenty of rotation to ensure all got all
players got a breather.
Half time 2-0
Second half saw some excellent work from Lakelands with
dogged determination. The hard work paid off with a good ball forward to Donal
who took it in his stride and blasted it in the net. More please! Park Celtic
stayed patient and kept playing and gradually took more of the breaks with the
result more than a touch flattering to them.

Lakelands FC
Date 23rd October 2011
Venue Mountview Park
A depleted squad and very bad weather made
for a tough challenge in this away match against excellent opposition.
We started the match with three defenders,
Cormac Holohan, Finn Cleary and Khyber Rabbi who were busy from the start. Our
goalkeeper for the first half, Donal Moriarty worked hard and the yellow jersey
was a wet and mucky mess by half time, reflecting his efforts. He also had to
contend with some strict rule s imposed by the match referee regarding
kick-outs. We started Peter Hennigan up front and he was supported by Matthew
Mongan and Patrick Flood in the midfield.
Our only substitute for the first half, Stephen Pender swopped with Finn
Cleary and we soldiered on until halftime. We had a couple of breaks early on
in the half and the movement between the defenders and midfield was good.Mountview boys, however, proved to be a very
physical opposition and their persistence gained them a lead of 3 goals by
half-time.
We made some changes for the second half and
Peter Hennigan donned the wet mucky mess for a while. Cormac Holohan moved into
midfield and Donal Moriarty took up the forward position. The pressure from
Mountview was relentless however some excellent linkage play almost earned us a
goal when Cormac Holohan’s tap on their goal line was cleared. Patrick flood
came off for a well earned rest to let Khyber Rabbi back on in midfield. Another player rotation released Peter
Hennigan to midfield and Khyber took on the (by now) brown jersey. It was a
gutsy performance from start to finish from our team and the score line is not
an accurate reflection of the overall match.
Well done everyone.
Result Lakelands FC 1 - 5 Jobstown Celtic
Date 16th October 2011
Venue Leopardstown Park
Having
already played against this established team five weeks ago, we knew we were
facing formidable opposition. We started
the first half with a solid defence which included Stephen Pender, Donal
Moriarty and Patrick Flood with Bruce Deery in goals. Our starting midfield
consisted of Cormac Holohan and Sean Woods supporting Peter Hennigan up
front. The whole team worked hard and we
gave as good as we got for the first 10 minutes however Jobstown kept the
pressure on and scored their first goal shortly afterwards. Finn Cleary, Khyber Rabbi and Matthew Mongan
were introduced to rest some tired legs and although the whole team continued
to battle we found ourselves 3-0 down at the break.
We approached the second half with another player rotation and Donal
Moriarty, who had come back on in the midfield got a break early on which he
converted with a solid shot into the back of the net. At the other end Khyber
Rabbi (last week’s man of the match) donned the yellow jersey and made some
terrific saves. Jobstown had lots in reserve though and managed to squeeze
another two goals past us in the second half. Despite this the whole team gave
a spirited performance and played hard until the final whistle.
Our player / position rotation last Sunday was a very useful exercise
and should benefit the whole team going forward.
Well played guys—keep up the good work.

Venue Firhouse
This blustery morning in Firhouse was always going to be a tough physical encounter for both teams. Lakelands had the full squad in attendance and we were raring to go! From the beginning it was an exciting match with our defenders, Bruce Deery, Alec Mc Cann and Cormac Holohan being tested early on. The passing movements from our back s through midfield, Stephen Pender and Sean Woods (capt) was accurate and lots of forward passes to our lone striker, Peter Hennigan ensured some good shots at Knocklyon’s goal in the first half. Patrick Flood and Matthew Mongan worked hard in defence and midfield and some excellent goalkeeping from Khyber Rabbi ensured we were still in the hunt at the interval.
Matthew Mongan moved up to the front for the second half to support Peter Hennigan in the search for a goal we knew we had in us. Ten minutes in and several shots later Peter picked up a terrific pass from the midfield and he drove the ball home. The remaining ten minutes saw Knocklyon increase the pressure in search of an equalizer. Excellent defending and brave goalkeeping by Khyber ensured our first win of the season.
This was a terrific team performance supported by Finn Cleary and Donal Moriarty (injured) and the win was particularly good considering this team have only played together three times.
Well done everyone.
